Twenty for Prayer — November 2007

Again…only for those interested in praying. Of no literary or amusement value:

This month, our subject is:  diseases that are no longer yielding to medicine.

When I was in New York in October, the papers were full of cases of people who had been killed by Staph infections that would not respond to any known medicine. (Just after I wrote this, I received a letter from my son’s school on the same subject, so apparently it is a matter of concern here as well.)

I felt that this idea – that illnesses we used to be able to control could now become a grave danger was one worth praying about. We can pray both for the health of those who may be affected, and for wisdom for the doctors and researchers who are searching for new cures.

Bible quotes:

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:28

“Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:” Psalm 8:5-6

“O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.” (Psalm 30:2)

“Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”(Psalm 91:5-10)

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:” (I Kings 3:9)

“For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.” Mark 3:10
