Wallpaper Meme

Saw this three places so far and I’ve only just begun looking at my flist:

Rules—
01. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
02. Explain in five sentences why you’re using that wallpaper!
03. Don’t change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Hmm…am I the only person in the LJ Community who uses a standard Microsoft wallpaper that comes with the computer. I’ve got the one with the autumn trees and the road covered by orange leaves. I’ve seen it elsewhere, in some ad somewhere. I like it because it looks restful and as if you can’t help wondering where it goes — and because I’m used to it.

I always set up my computers the same way and I hate changing them. All the stuff that is gray around the edged of your computer is green on mine. I miss the earlier versions of Windows where you had control over all colors, even the edges of buttons.

  1. You still can, it’s just not as user friendly.

I’d wager that most of us with the grey borders don’t like change either, which is why we compulsively set our computer visual schemes to match Windows 98 ;)

But using a computer is all about what’s comfortable for you. You should see me when it’s time to buy a new keyboard. I’m so darn picky it’s funny. (Half-size backspace keys for the lose!)

    • The reason mine is green is that the first time I had word, back in the 90s, I had a job where I often had nothing to do. I was a computer help person, so I got to know the computers as well as I could. This included playing with the color scheme. After many many experiments, I pixked this pleasant green color and since then, the first thing I do when I get a new computer is change it to that shade of green. ;-)

We just got a new keyboard (the old one the letters had rubbed off the keys.) Not sure I like it yet.

  4. Depends. Is solid black a standard Microsoft wallpaper? Mind you, part of the reason for that is that I currently have…94 icons on my desktop. Any image would be quite concealed, plus making that one particular icon I’m searching for that much more difficult to find. Oh, sure, I could clean up the desktop some, get rid of the ones I only use once in a blue moon, but where’d be the fun in that?

And for the record, I’m mostly a complete stranger. I lurk on the Amber mailing list, and dream of one day having the right combination of time and money to make it to one of the Amber cons.

    • Welcome!

I have never made it to an Amber con either…maybe someday, when the children are older!

Black is cool, and even more sedate than me. ;-)

My kids all have the map to the world of the Bionicles on their computers, it has a funny Easter Island name I can’t remember, something like Metro Nue, or something. They have a million icons, too, though, so one seldom sees it.
